Main Sewer Line Cleaning in Murfreesboro

Your main sewer line carries everything from every drain in the house out to the street. When it clogs, the water has nowhere to go, so it backs up into the lowest drains in the house first. That’s a different problem from a single slow sink, and it takes different equipment to fix.

Simply Plumbing clears main line clogs for homeowners in Murfreesboro and across Middle Tennessee. We do the work with a large drain machine, a sewer camera, and a locator.

Signs of a Main Sewer Line Clog

These usually point to the main line, not a single drain:

  • Several fixtures backing up or draining slowly at the same time
  • A toilet that gurgles when the washer drains or the tub empties
  • Water coming up in a tub, shower, or floor drain
  • Sewage smell inside or around the house
  • Water or waste coming out of the outdoor cleanout

How Simply Plumbing Clears a Sewer Line

We run a large drain machine through your sewer cleanout to break up and clear the blockage and get water moving again. Having an accessible cleanout makes main line work much easier. If your home doesn’t have one, or it’s buried or damaged, we can talk with you about adding one.

For smaller branch lines inside the house, we use a smaller machine or a flex shaft. You can read more about that on our drain cleaning page.

Why Main Sewer Lines Clog

Most main line clogs come down to a handful of causes. Wipes and paper towels don’t break down the way toilet paper does, so they snag and pile up. Grease poured down the kitchen sink cools and sticks to the pipe walls further down the line. Tree roots find their way into older joints looking for water and grow into a net that catches everything.

The pipe itself plays a part, too. Older lines can crack, separate at the joints, or sag over time, leaving low spots where waste settles instead of flowing. When the same line clogs over and over, it’s usually one of these, and the camera is how you find out which.

Sewer Camera Inspection: See What’s Really Down There

Clearing a clog gets you running again, but it doesn’t tell you why it happened. That’s what the sewer camera is for. We run it down the line and you can see the inside of your pipe on screen. Then we use a locator to find exactly where the camera head is from above ground and mark the spot.

A camera inspection can show:

  • Tree roots growing into joints
  • Cracked, broken, or separated pipe
  • Sags or low spots where waste settles
  • Grease and buildup narrowing the pipe
  • Collapsed sections
  • Objects that were flushed and got stuck

Options, Not a Sales Pitch

Once the line is clear and on camera, you get a plain answer. Sometimes the clog was a one-off and nothing else needs to happen. Sometimes there’s a problem you’ll want to keep an eye on. And sometimes there’s damage that needs sewer line repair. Whatever the camera shows, we explain it, give you a price or a few options, and wait for your OK.

If the camera shows old, deteriorating cast iron throughout the house, we may talk with you about repiping the drains. You won’t get pressure either way. Simply Plumbing has no sales guys and no sales pitch.

What Customers Say

5.0 stars from 43 Google reviews. Every one is from a real customer.

“Matt was great! He was able to help me on very late notice and his attention to detail was very appreciated. He was very transparent about the pricing throughout the process as he discovered many issues with the plumbing at my house that the previous owner did himself. Matt was also very knowledgeable about current code and did an excellent job educating me about the industry. I would recommend Matt and Simply Plumbing to anyone.”

“Matt really saved us. On Thursday morning, Atmos came out to repair a gas leak in the line that they discovered. After fixing the leak (and taking out our Internet), they yellow tagged us saying there was a leak in our house and they couldn’t turn our gas back on until a plumber discovered where our leak was. This was a Thursday afternoon. Matt agreed to come out first thing Friday morning. Within an hour he found the issue and had us fixed, and Atmos turned our gas back on Friday afternoon. He really saved us from a weekend of cold showers. He was very professional, polite, and friendly and highly recommend him and his company.”

Sewer Line Cleaning & Camera Inspection: Common Questions

How do I know if it’s my main sewer line or just one drain?

If one fixture is slow, it’s usually that drain. If several fixtures back up at once, or water comes up in a tub or floor drain when you flush or run the washer, the main line is the likely problem.

Do I need a camera inspection after a sewer line is cleared?

It’s a good idea when clogs keep coming back or something about the backup seems unusual. The camera shows what caused the clog so you’re not guessing.

Can tree roots be cleared from a sewer line?

A drain machine can cut through roots and get the line flowing. Roots tend to come back through the same joints, so the camera helps you decide whether a repair makes sense.

Where is my sewer cleanout?

It’s usually a capped pipe sticking out of the ground near the house or somewhere along the line toward the street. If you can’t find one, we can help locate it or talk with you about installing one.

Will the camera tell me if I need a new sewer line?

It shows the condition of the pipe, including breaks, sags, and collapsed sections. We’ll walk you through what the camera shows and what your options are.
